Assistant Manager/Counsellor (Counselling & Progressions)

Counselling 

  • Provide counselling services consistent with professional ethical standards to student community who are experiencing personal struggles.  

  • Liaise with relevant internal divisions (e.g. learning centre, Exams department, Psychology Clinic) and external stakeholders (e.g. IMH, Silver Ribbon, FSC) to support student 

  • Assist referral of student to relevant resources  

  • Conduct training and guidance to Wellness Buddy (student group under the supervision of counselling office) 

  • Conceptualise, prepare, and conduct wellness workshops and infographics promoting mental health  

Progressions 

  • Manage and coordinate student progressions with various internal departments (Student Admin, Exams, Enrolments team) 

  • Guide students on procedures involving academic progression review 

Accessibility Services 

  • Assess and provide recommendations for student requests for accessibility services 

Others 

  • Ensure all activities accord with current JCU policies, procedures and practices  

  • Assist Manager (Counselling & Progressions) on other duties assigned 

 

Academic Qualifications 

  • Minimum degree in counselling or equivalent. A Master’s Degree in counselling will be preferred 

  • Minimum 1-year clinical counselling experience   

  • Experienced in conducting risk assessment (e.g. suicide, family violence) and safety planning is preferred 

  • Clinical Membership to Singapore Association for Counselling will be applied for this position

  • Good communication skills, empathy and patience 

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, well-organised with an eye for detail 

  • Student-oriented 

  • Able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and in a diverse community 

  • Adaptable to changes and able to work both as a team and independently
