Research Assistant - Aquaculture

The Research Assistant provides technical support to our research, diagnostic laboratories and aquaculture projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the project team, industry partners, research agencies, and across University.
  • Understanding of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH), and animal ethics legislation
  • Provide significant input toward management of laboratory resources
    • Maintain documents and records in compliance with quality assurance in ISO accredited laboratory
    • Manage receipt, case reference assignment, appropriate storage and processing, and testing of research and diagnostic samples
    • Procurement and maintain stock inventories of consumables and chemicals
    • Manage equipment servicing in compliance with ISO accreditation requirements
  • Support research activities and diagnostic capability to meet project objectives
    • Ensure accurate record keeping, integrity in data and sample collection in laboratory and field studies
    • Attain proficiency to perform laboratory analyses of research and diagnostic samples
    • Manage experimental animals and facilities in accordance with Singapore NACLAR requirements
    • May require occasional weekend work

Key selection criteria

Essential

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in aquaculture, biological sciences, marine science, zoology or a related discipline.
  • Experience in standard laboratory techniques, with demonstrated proficiency in molecular techniques and/ or histoprocessing.
  • Evidence of working successfully within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English in both oral and written mediums
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekend shifts, as required for project operations.

Desirable

  • Experience in the husbandry of aquatic animals for research or production
  • Understand the requirements for accurate data recording and analyses for scientific publication
  • Demonstrated intermediate computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office suite

Please note that we will not be able to facilitate a work visa application for this position. This is a 5-month contract role, subject to renewal depending on operational needs and performance, if applicable.
