AccessAbility Officer (Part Time)

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as an AccessAbility Officer. This role supports students who require additional assistance to fully participate in their studies.

The AccessAbility Officer coordinates reasonable adjustments based on documentation and recommendations provided by appropriately qualified practitioners. The successful candidate will work closely with students and relevant University staff to translate these recommendations into an AccessAbility Plan that meets the student’s educational needs while remaining operationally practical within the campus environment.
 
The successful incumbent will work with students and relevant University staff to translate these recommendations into an AccessAbility Plan that is appropriate for the student’s educational needs and operationally feasible within our campus context. Where the documentation is unclear or insufficient, the officer may seek further information from the student or the relevant practitioner, with the student’s consent. This is not a clinical, diagnostic or therapeutic role, and the Advisor does not make independent medical or clinical determinations.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review documentation and recommendations provided by appropriately qualified practitioners and work with the student and relevant University staff to develop, implement and review an AccessAbility Plan.
  • Identify reasonable educational adjustments that respond to the documented impact on the student’s studies and are consistent with University policies, academic requirements and available resources.
  • Seek clarification or additional documentation where the information provided is unclear or insufficient to support a proposed adjustment.
  • Enhancing staff and student knowledge and capability to support students with a disability, injury, or health condition by increasing awareness of equity considerations and facilitating training, workshops, and educational initiatives on reasonable adjustments.
  • Continually improve service delivery through strategic policy development, service enhancement initiatives, and ongoing review of processes to ensure alignment with University policies and student needs.
  • Developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative working relationships with educators and those supporting student success across the University

Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Disability Studies, Counselling, or another closely related discipline.
  •  3–5 years of experience in accessibility services, education, student support or a comparable environment.
  • Experience supporting people with physical disabilities, chronic health conditions, mental health conditions, neurodiversity, sensory impairments, and learning difficulties. 
  • Professional registration is not required as this is not a clinical, diagnostic or therapeutic role.
  • A postgraduate qualification in disability, rehabilitation, psychology, counselling, special/inclusive education or a related field would be advantageous.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment using high-level organisational, problem-solving, communication and administrative skills.
  • The internal title of the role would be AccessAbility Advisor 
  • This role is Part Time fixed term contract position (Approximately 20 hours per week)
