We are excited to recruit a Research Assistant/ Senior Research Assistant to be to be part of our dynamic Tropical Future Institution team.
The successful incumbent will provide technical support to aquaculture research projects, including aquaculture nutrition and aquatic animal health. This is full time contract position till 31 October 2028.
Key Responsibilities
Support research staff in the practical implementation of aquaculture research projects.
Manage aquaculture and feeding trials, including fish husbandry, feeding, water-quality monitoring and sample collection.
Conduct field sampling at research facilities and commercial aquaculture farms.
Support aquatic animal health activities, including fish health monitoring, disease investigation and biological sampling.
Ensure accurate record keeping and maintain data and sample integrity.
Maintain aquatic facilities and experimental animals in accordance with animal ethics and biosecurity requirements.
Collect, process and store fish tissue, water and other biological samples.
Work collaboratively with project teams, research collaborators and industry partners.
Maintain project consumables, chemicals and equipment.
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, biological sciences, marine science, zoology or a related discipline.
Experience in aquatic animal husbandry, aquaculture research or production.
Experience in standard laboratory techniques, biological sampling and water-quality monitoring.
Good organisational, record-keeping and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
Proficient in Microsoft applications, tech -savvy professional with excellent communication skills.
Work flexible hours and be available to work weekends as required for project activities.
Experience with RAS, aquaculture nutrition/feeding trials or aquatic animal health.
Experience in aquaculture field/farm sampling and research data management.
Experience in aquatic animal health, including fish health assessment and biological sampling.
Full time contract position till 31 October 2028.
